Halloween

Hey guys,

So it's Halloween today...a day where kids can roam the streets till they fill their pillow cases with candy. Where no cars ever dare to leave their driveways, and when children can eat candy till they get sick and not get into any trouble like they would on a normal night. Although I'm not one for these kind of holidays I do like that just one day of the year you can dress up as something you would want to but on any other day you would probably be beat up for it. This Halloween my house was all done up (My mom kinda goes crazy for Halloween) and our front porch contained many noise making spooky items like: a crawling hand, a huge strung up skeleton, some screaming coffin thing and a few others. My favorite was the pumpkin that we made look like it was throwing up its insides (mmmm...) but then again I love pumpkins. Also this year I caved in and dressed up to hand out candy and unlike any other year...I actually had fun because I was dressed as a mullet wearing Rock Star (compleat with guitar) and I made every kid that I answered the door to sing in a rock star like voice 'Trick-or-Treat' and holy that was fun. As many of you don't know I have a HUGE fear of Halloween mask...I never knew why but every time I see them the eyes aren't right...it's creepy! So every time before I would go to answer I would check the window to see if any kids were wearing any...sooooo many kids had some. I also went around the block to the houses I knew gave out a lot of candy (comes with the experience of living in the same place for a while) and hit those houses first...oh man just looking at the candy I got makes me sick. I also made sure I saved a few candy bags from my house cause I'm a nice friend and plan to give some out to my friends on friday...PA day tomorrow (whoot) but yeah that was my halloween...tell me about yours....Happy Halloween muahahahahahhahahaha

No more Media Studies blogs

Hey guys,
So our unit on 'the internet' is over and its kinda bitter sweet because I had finished my blog way before the time they were due but also McLaughlin is gone! so sad as I mentioned in my previous blog, also becuase I won't be able to check my e-mail, Facebook and Youtube all at the same time in class...That's sadning (MY WORD) but also its happy because were THAT much closer to the 'music' unit and that is what I'm waiting for but you can't have everything. But anyways I was on my Youtube thing a few weeks ago and I found a new awsome song that has to be one of my top-ten-favorite-songs-on-the-internet list (And that is a hard list to get on!) this song is by David Choi who a frequently mention on my blogs but this is one of his best Original songs. He plays a mandolin which is a very hard instrument to play becuase of the small finger board and sings with his signature tone (which I love). The way he plays and sings give me shiver everytime I hear this song! The song is called "Dusty People" and was added September 18th, 2007 on David choi's youtube acount. I have posted the song and hope you all love it as much as I do!

You can find David Choi at his Yotube account HERE or at his Myspace HERE because he is a really great musician and I love his work...

New Paramore Video

Hey guys,
so you might not know but I am a HUGE Paramore fan. Their not really big in Canada yet but their and rock/alternative band. Hayley Williams (lead singer) has a lot of soul and R&B backround and you can hear it in her voice (but you have to listen) Their new single CrushCrushCrush is blowing up TRL charts!!!!!!! I love this band and I have posted the video. This is not the first video they have out. 'Misery Buisness', 'Pressure' and 'Emergency' are other videos they have made over their fame I suggest you check them out. I also suggest that you check out their acoustic versions of their songs because unlike a lot of artist, Hayley William's voice is perfect for acoustic covers and is basicaly flawless (I've posted the acoustic version too from a MTV commercial thingy campfire majig!!). Heres the new video...Enjoy

Do Celebrites Get away with more?

Hey guys
Okay I do have a problem with some celebrites and what they get away with! Its true that they are in the public eye and they're rich and stuff but Its not fair with a lot of they things they get away with. DUI's, Drug possestion, driving without a licence, weponds charges! I mean come on if they were 'normal' everyday people they would have gone to jail no glits, no glamour just gone and done their time but instead they do long drawn out court sessions televised by every News Station in TV and yet they still get off with a slap on the back of the hand! Its so unfair for all of us that don't have millions of dollars to get lawyers from who knows! So why do they get away with this?! If they were smart they would be harder on celebrites BECAUSE they are in the public eye so it sends a message out to those who are doing crime becuase it shows they have no leniency for enyone and yet they use all the excusses in the book just so they won't serve their time!

The most famous example of this is Paris Hilton (of chorse!) she was charged with a DUI and driving without a licence and was sentenced to 45 days in a minimum security jail. Althought she did go to jail, two days after she was sent there she was let out becuase of 'medical reasons' (which ment she was scared and didn't like the food) and when she was out she went shopping and stayed in her mansion! I mean come on people just because she is the daughter to the owner of the Hilton Hotels dosen't mean he will do anything!!! what is he going to do? Not leave little chocolates on your pillow, deny you room service? And still when she did her time she old did a little over half of the days then was let out for "good behaviour" now I'm not going to say anything about THAT.

Its not just about Jail time but its also about the fact that they can get away with almost anything and people still idolize them and buy their merchendise like...Kate Moss a model who was famously filmed doing drugs...umm hello! anyone know thats illigel! ummm she should go to jail for drug possesion!!!!!!!

So in closing Celebities get away with a lot of stuff and its not fair!!!!!!

Backlash

Hey guys
from my other blog about youtube musicians i got a few comments about selling artist short...I'm not selling anyone short but those two songs (one by T-pain and one by sean kingston) I did not say anything about writing them or producing them i simple pointed out the computer enchancement in their voice. And the girl who i linked to about not good singing I didnt say anything about the song I talked about her voice and she didn't write the song that she played behind her it was Paramore's 'Misery Buisness' that was written by the band. I respect most artist if they are serious about their work. If they want to go around saying that they make their own music or write their own music and just don't then I don't have any respect for them. Which brings up another topic...sampling

We watched a video in class about sampling and it got me thinking if you sample songs from other artist will you pay them royalties for their song. My own personal thought about this is....to an extent. If your taking like verses or chorse out and using them in your song then thats a no because that is their words that you have taken (also remember "covers" talk about that later) but if your taking riffs and licks that you layer over to make it sound like your own then I think thats okay as long is it doesn't sound exactly like the original (remixes)

Covers are a different story though. A cover is when an artist takes a song and does a remake of it in his or her own way and or does it the same way with their own voice. Covering a song does not mean taking it as long as the artist reconizes the original artist. Maybe covers can be better or worse that then original but is all a matter of interpritation. A good example of a cover is Cristina Marie's cover of Jeff Buckley's 'Hallelujah' (which is intrestingly enought is also a cover itself) So next time you hear that song you love from that artist it isn't originaly from it is probably a cover!

Ps. Maybe one day I'll do a song on youtube but not today! and yeah I know its not very easy!

Are all Youtube musicians, good musicians?

Hey guys,
So I was watching a few videos on youtube (yet again...I'm a little addicted) and I was kinda woundering since I see all these comments like "great job" or "Keep it up" and that video wouldn't even be very good! So are all Youtube musicians good musicians? The answer is NO a huge NO, NO, NO, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! just because someone has the cojones (that means balls lol McLaughlin) to turn their camera on and strum out some chords doesn't mean they are good musicians a perfect example here sorry to the singer that I had to get from this. But you can't just take a song and call it your's it doesn't work like that! This is a real musician, David choi who produces and writes his own music like and original piece called 'Valentines'

Even through you can't just strum out a few chords and sing a really bad note what makes you think "real" singers in the media use their own voice. Okay so it may sound cool but when you change your voice to make it sound better than it acually is then is it real music or computer made music? An example of computer altered voices are someone like T-Pain with his hit "buy you a drink" or Sean Kingston's "Beautiful Girls" where you can tell with the over perfect voice and overall Cyber-like voice! It's just plain Cheating!!! their are REAL singers out there that have amazing voices that don't need computer altering like Hayley Williams (Paramore) whos voice is perfect for rock and alternative song! I love her voice!!! (Paramore's acoustic version of 'Here we go again' in my last post, click acoustic)

But the question is if you had the chance to use this technology for altering your own voice....would you use it to become famous....or would fame feel hollow?!
